Kiryas Joel School District

Kiryas Joel features its own school district with a public school for the developmentally disabled. More than 250 youngsters are enrolled in the school where dozens of full time teachers and support staff give the special children a stimulating and productive education. The school enrolls infants and toddlers as well as older children.

The school district features Resource Rooms, English As A Second Language and even computer education. The Public School’s budget is raised through local tax levy, federal and state assistance, and tuition payments. Special services are offered to nursery, pre-school, and school-aged children. The latter benefit from a variety of therapeutic services, including occupational therapy, speech therapy and physical therapy, self-contained full day classes, and summer services.

Hasidic children are not the only beneficiaries of the Kiryas Joel Public School. The School District is on a list of agencies in Orange County who provide evaluation services to handicapped children throughout the region, including Washingtonville, Goshen, and West Point Military Academy. In addition, students from 3 counties are enrolled in the school-age special education program, nationally recognized for its caring professional staff and its unique bi-lingual curriculum.
